The Romoland School District is accepting applications to fill the Trustee Area 3 seat on the Board of Education following the recent resignation of Cinda Sarian.
“My resignation is a result of the relocation of my primary residence, as such, I will no longer reside in the designated Trustee Area 3 for which I currently serve as a Board of Trustee,” Sarian wrote in her Aug. 28 resignation letter. “It has been an honor and a privilege to serve as a board member for this outstanding school district.”
In light of Sarian’s resignation, the board was given two options to fill the soon-to-be vacant seat at last week’s meeting: Call for a special election or fill the seat through a provisional appointment. The board voted unanimously to appoint someone to fill the seat for the remainder of the term, which ends in December 2024.
“The Romoland School District Board of Education is committed to ensuring the continuity of effective governance and representation within the district,” a district news release said.
To be eligible to apply for the seat, candidates must be at least 18 years old, reside in Trustee Area 3, be legally qualified to hold civil office and be registered to vote in Riverside County.
“Prior experience on a school board is not necessary,” the district release said. “The Romoland School District values diversity and welcomes applications from individuals with diverse backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives.”
Those interested in applying can find the application here on the district’s website. The deadline to submit an application is Sept. 29, after which the board will review the submissions and appoint a new board member to take over Sarian’s seat.
Sarian, who was appointed in 2023, will remain on the board until Oct. 11.
