Ahead of the Christmas holiday, The New York Times published a roundup of local news stories from publications across the nation.
The Riverside Record, along with 14 other news outlets from the state of California, were highlighted in the roundup for work published in the last year.
“It’s always a win for local news to be highlighted by national news organizations like The New York Times,” publisher Alicia Ramirez said. “I’m hopeful this will become a trend with larger publications highlighting the increasingly important work published by local news outlets like The Record.”

The Record was highlighted for its coverage of the public hearing about the vested rights determination for Robertson’s Ready Mix, which would allow the company to mine on land that has not historically been mined and that the Pechanga Band of Indians say is home to “unique and irreplaceable cultural resources.”
The county is expected to make a final decision on the request in February after representatives from both Robertson’s and the Pechanga Band of Indians requested the item be continued this past August.
The roundup also included fellow Riverside County publication, The Palm Springs Post, for its feature on Let’s Kick ASS Palm Springs, an inclusive social group seeking to reduce the stresses of AIDS Survivor Syndrome.
