Today was the last day for voters in Temecula Valley Unified School District (TVUSD) Trustee Area 4 to cast their votes in the recall election of Board President Joseph Komrosky.
Ballots for the recall election were mailed out May 6 with a local vote center opening May 25 and additional centers opening June 1.
The campaign to recall Komrosky, led by One Temecula Valley PAC (1TVPAC), was officially launched last summer with a goal of removing Komrosky, Board Clerk Jen Wiersma and former Board Member Danny Gonzalez.
“This is not a tool that you use for political purposes, it’s something that needs to be done,” Maryann Edwards, former Temecula mayor and longtime councilmember, said at the PAC’s kickoff event. “When people are willing to lie, defy the law, take our district to the brink of bankruptcy and still continue to lie, they are a cancer in this community and must be removed.”
In January, the Riverside County Registrar of Voters (ROV) certified the signatures for the recall election and, in February set the date for the election.
Last month, Komrosky said in an emailed statement to The Record that he was “hopeful” that those who voted him into office in 2022 would come out and vote no on the recall.
“Until then, I’m excited to continue to reintroduce my values to this wonderful community of Temecula,” he wrote.
11 p.m. With 7,521 ballots counted, nearly 54% of voters have voted to recall Komrosky with 46% voting against the recall. This is the final update of the evening. There are approximately 1,400 vote-by-mail ballots and 50 conditional voter registration ballots that have been received but still need to be counted.
Updates will be posted to the ROV’s website on a daily basis as the office continues to receive process ballots. All election results are considered unofficial until the ROV completes its official canvass of the election on or before July 5.
As of Tuesday night, voter turnout for the recall election was 35%.
10 p.m. With 6,961 ballots counted, 55% of voters have voted to recall Komrosky with nearly 45% voting against the recall. The ROV is expected to provide one more update tonight at about 11 p.m.
“I feel good,” Jeff Pack, co-founder of 1TVPAC, said. “I mean, looking at the numbers, obviously you want to have as much of a gap as possible, but it looks like what I kind of thought we would have.”
The Riverside Record reached out to Komrosky for comment on the early returns, but has not yet heard back.
