The city of Jurupa Valley is seeking input from residents on four logo concepts as part of its multi-year branding project.

“This is just something new to give us like a new facelift, a refresher, and to get the community excited to know that the city of Jurupa Valley is now a more established community and add some new branding to our services and products that we provide,” Monique Claude, marketing and communications manager, said.

The survey asks residents to consider the four potential logos based not only on how much they like the images but also on how well the logos represent the concepts of community of communities, building a future and the city as a whole.

“We’re hoping the public gives us some good input on those designs,” Claude said.

The first option features a rising sun motif behind rolling hills with each of the nine communities that make up Jurupa Valley being represented as a ray of light.

“The rising sun is meant to represent positivity and a new day,” a video description of the logo said. “It conveys the idea of a city moving forward.”

The second option features the letters “J “and “V,” with the “V” nestled in the crook of the “J.”

“The combination is fun and bold, standing out amidst neighboring cities,” the video description of the logo said. “By creating a shape that acts as a graphic container, the city of Jurupa Valley will have a graphic system that will be very flexible to use in many different ways.”

The third option features a wagon wheel with each of the spaces between the spokes representing each of the nine communities that make up Jurupa Valley.

“The idea is that when combined together, they are able to metaphorically move together towards a great, unified city,” the video description of the logo said.

The final option features a line drawing of a California sagebrush, a shrub found throughout the city of Jurupa Valley.

“The California sagebrush, abundant within the city, has been used as a beautiful graphic representation of peace and friendship within the city, which also serves to connect to Jurupa Valley’s rich history,” the video description of the logo said.

All four logos, and the accompanying potential applications, can also be found here in the concept presentation.

“From looking at our social media, we’ve gotten so many comments,” Claude said. “I want to say quite a good amount from people not liking it at all to some selecting their top favorites… so we’re taking those comments also and are going to consider those as well.”

Back in October, the city council was presented with three potential logos, one of which was recommended by staff, but ended up asking for changes to the options presented as well as additional community input.

“The community is the brand, right,” City Councilmember Armando Carmona said at that meeting. “The community is what’s behind this image, right? And I think them being a part of it is also important.”

The official city seal, which is currently being used across the city’s social media and digital platforms, will remain the same and continue to be used by the city for official purposes.

“We’re not doing away with that,” Claude said. “We just want to create this new branding that we think will be a positive marketing brand for us to be able to go out to different community events and even national events.”

Jurupa Valley residents will have until later this month to fill out the survey with the city council expected to receive a report with the initial responses in early September.
