The Jurupa Unified School District (JUSD) Board of Education has started accepting applications to fill a vacancy created by the resignation of Area 3 Trustee Karen Bradford.
Bradford, who has lived in the district for more than four decades, started her service on the board in 2017. Her term is set to expire this December.
“For me, it’s always about the students,” Bradford said at the February 17 meeting. “It’s been my privilege to be a part of paving successful options to their futures.”
In her resignation letter, Bradford said she made the decision to step down after she and her husband decided to move out of state to be closer to family.
“My son has begged me for several years to complete his vision of our extended family living on the same property, and that is coming to fruition,” she said. “My husband and I cannot resist the opportunity to become that close a part of our new grandchild’s life! We’re packing up the house and cleaning out the barn!”

Applications to fill the vacancy must be submitted by March 6 at 4:30 p.m. in order to be reviewed for eligibility by the ad hoc committee. In order to be eligible for consideration, applicants must be at least 18 years of age, registered to vote and reside in Trustee Area 3.
The application is available on the district’s website and can be completed online. Those who prefer a paper application can pick one up at the JUSD Education Center, 4850 Pedley Road in Jurupa Valley. Paper applications have to be submitted in person at the district office.
The board is set to conduct interviews of eligible candidates and select a provisional appointment at its March 17 meeting. The person appointed is set to fill the remainder of Bradford’s term.
“Mrs. Bradford’s broad knowledge, leadership, and commitment to putting students first have left a legacy of excellence that will positively impact our district for many years to come” said Board President Melissa Ragole in a district release. “As the senior-most member of our governing board, Mrs. Bradford took newer trustees under her wing and provided guidance and wisdom to help them succeed in their roles. We thank Mrs. Bradford for her years of service and wish her the very best.”
