The Hemet Unified Board of Education is set to interview four candidates at a special Friday meeting to fill the Trustee Area 6 seat following the resignation of Dr. Sumanta Chaudhuri Saini.

“[A]fter deep reflection on my familial and professional commitments, I have made the difficult decision to resign from the Hemet Unified School District Board of Trustees, Area 6,” Chaudhuri Saini said in her April 16 letter.

At the April 19 special meeting, the board voted 5-1, with Board Member Kenneth Prado opposed, to make a provisional appointment to the board until the November election, when the voters will decide who will fill the seat.

In order to be eligible for appointment, a board member must be a citizen of the United States, a resident of Trustee Area 6, at least 18 years old and a registered voter. Applications were accepted through April 26.

According to the district’s website, the board is expected to make an appointment at Friday’s meeting with that appointment becoming effective May 7.

“Serving on the school board can be a valuable and satisfying way to make a significant contribution to the community,” the district website said. “The Board, staff, parent and student community enjoy a professional, collaborative relationship.”

Those being interviewed on Friday include Kathlyn Julia Bloom-Rudibaugh, Keyonah Newkirk, Hugh F. Malone and Jeffrey Slepski, according to the posted agenda.
