The Blythe City Council last week voted not to fill the seat vacated by Councilmember Dale Reynolds ahead of the Nov. 5 election.

Reynolds submitted his resignation to the city this past February, effective March 12.

“The past eight years have been a wonderful experience for me and I am very grateful for the support I have received from you and city staff while serving as a council member as well as the mayor of the city of Blythe,” Reynolds wrote in his letter, obtained by The Riverside Record. “Please let me know if I can be of any assistance at any point. I plan to keep in touch and make myself available if needed.”

Along with his council seat, Reynolds’ resignation created vacancies on a number of committees, which the city council voted to appoint other members to fill those roles.

Vice Mayor Johnny Rodriguez was appointed to the budget and finance committee and the animal shelter ad hoc committee. He was also appointed as an alternate for the League of California Cities (Cal Cities) and the Coachella Valley Association of Governments (CVAG).

Councilmember Joseph Halby III was appointed to the art in public places and planning project review committee, and Mayor Joey DeConinck was appointed to Cal Cities.
