The Alvord Unified School District last week voted to release Superintendent Resma Byrne from her employment contract for no cause, effective April 11.

“I would like to extend my gratitude to the Board of Education for their steadfast commitment and leadership,” Byrne wrote in a statement posted to social media. “Their dedication has been instrumental in shaping the direction and success of our educational initiatives.”

In an email to The Riverside Record, the district said both she and the board would “work together to help ensure a seamless transition.”

“The board thanks Dr. Byrne for her service and wishes her the best in her future endeavors,” the statement continued.

Last April, it was announced that Byrne would take the role of superintendent following the retirement of Allan Mucerino. At the time, Byrne was an assistant superintendent in the district, responsible for overseeing all educational services.

Prior to her tenure at Alvord Unified, she was the director of educational services at Walnut Valley Unified School District and served in a number of leadership roles at the Corona-Norco Unified School District.

“Dr. Byrne’s exemplary record in educational leadership and her profound commitment to fostering an inclusive learning environment make her uniquely qualified to lead our district,” Carolyn M. Wilson, then board president, said in the release. “We are confident that under her guidance, Alvord will continue to thrive and set new benchmarks in educational excellence.”

A news release from the district noted Byrne’s “instrumental role in advancing the district’s vision for student achievement, equity and innovation.” Byrne, in her statement, said that she was “continually inspired by the dedication and passion that define Alvord.”

“I am confident that this community will continue to thrive, guided by the same principles of unity, resilience, and excellence that have brought us to where we are today,” Byrne said in her statement. “While I will no longer be present in an official capacity, my belief in this community’s potential remains steadfast.”

According to the district’s news release, the trustees will appoint an interim superintendent in the near future. The release said that the board was also working to recruit a permanent superintendent for the district to take on the role this July.
