Hemet Unified School District Superintendent Christi Barrett last week swore in newest board member Jeffrey Slepski to fill the vacant Trustee Area 6 seat.

“Dr. Slepski, [I] could not be more proud and thrilled that you are part of this team, and I know that you come with [a] good heart, good intentions, and that is just already very evident,” Barrett said at the May 7 meeting. “And just personally, as the person who is honored to serve as the superintendent of this district, I could not be more happy to have you as one of my seven bosses.”

Slepski was appointed to the board in a 6-1 vote following the April 16 resignation of Dr. Sumanta Chaudhuri Saini, who said in a letter that she made the “difficult decision” after a “deep reflection on my familial and professional commitments.”

Slepski will serve for the remainder of Saini’s term, which ends later this year.

“I want to give congratulations to the new board member,” Trustee Kenneth Prado, who initially voted against a provisional appointment, said. “Thank you for joining the team and being selected to be here.”

The next meeting of the Hemet Unified School District Board of Education is scheduled for June 4.
